You will be taken into the heart of Venice’s world-famous Carnival and experience the decadence and charm of the Tiepolo Grand Ball. The dramatic costumes and unforgettable masks of carnival will transport you to a world of lavish colors and symphonic sounds. Along with the Grand Ball you will also explore key Italian cities and amazing sights including Tuscany’s famous Carnival float parade in Viareggio, the beautiful thermal spa town of Montecatini and the always magnificent city of Florence.


ITINERARY


DAY 0 - Monday, February 17: Fly from US to Venice

DAY 1 - Tuesday, February 18: Venice

Upon arrival in Venice, you will be greeted at the airport and transferred to your hotel in the center of the city. You’ll have a few hours to relax before joining your fellow travelers for a welcome dinner at a local restaurant. You will begin to see today how Venice has blended decadence and charm like no other city on the planet. Sleep in Venice.

DAY 2 - Wednesday, February 19: Venice

This morning we will show you the best kept secrets in Venice including hidden artistic masterpieces and off-the-path architectural wonders. In the afternoon, we will enjoy an aperitif and light appetizers at a delightful local cafe. Sleep in Venice.

DAY 3 – Thursday, February 20: Venice Grand Ball

Today we will start early in the morning to prepare for the Grand Ball Tiepolo. If you don’t have your own historic costume, we can help you pick out and rent an unforgettable one. Tonight, you will be taken to a splendid historical palazzo overlooking the Grand Canal, where you will enjoy music, dinner and dance at the most glamorous Ball on the planet. Sleep in Venice.

DAY 4 – Friday, February 21: Venice

You will more than likely want to sleep in late this morning! Later in the day, we will partake in mask making workshop at a local carnival mask producer. This evening, we will explore another delightful café to sample some different aperitifs and light appetizers. Sleep in Venice.

DAY 5 – Saturday, February 22: Bologna & Montecatini

Today we will say goodbye to Venice and head to the spa town of Montecatini. On the way, we will stop in sophisticated city of Bologna, the home of the western world’s oldest university and a long-time European capital of culture. You will marvel at the awesome Piazza Maggiore and the city’s unique medieval towers, the symbols of Bologna. Afterwards, we will arrive at our spa hotel and enjoy dinner at a nearby local restaurant. Sleep in Montecatini.

DAY 6 – Sunday, February 23: Carnival of Viareggio

Today will make our way to Viareggio for the day where a group of wealthy young locals gathered in 1873 at the Caffe’ Casino to devise a Carnival festival of grand floats. You will witness today one of the most renowned Carnival celebrations in both Italy and Europe. Sleep in Montecatini.

DAY 7 – Monday, February 24: Pisa & Lucca

Today we will visit the quaint walled city of Lucca. The city’s main piazza, incredible Duomo and lovely shops make it an ideal stop. Learn about the city’s many legends and its remarkable Medieval past. After lunch, we will then make our way to Pisa for a city tour and a visit to its spectacular Piazza dei Miracoli. Sleep in Montecatini.

DAY 8 – Tuesday, February 25: San Gimignano

Today we visit San Gimignano, the famous city of towers. In the 14th-century, San Gimignano had 70 towers, and although only a few still remain, the town center is well preserved. This medieval town is especially beautiful as we'll see sitting in the piazza, enjoying a glass of local Vernaccia wine or some of San Gimignano's acclaimed gelato. This afternoon you will find yourself in a local farm house to enjoy a wine tasting and learn how to cook some delicious Tuscan dishes of this region. Sleep in Montecatini

DAY 9 – Wednesday, February 26: Florence

This morning you will head to the final destination of your trip – the city of Florence, the captivating city of Michelangelo. Today you will have a guided tour including a visit to one of Florence’s spectacular museums. Sleep in Florence.

DAY 10 – Thursday, February 27: Florence

We will make one more visit today in Florence, then head to the famed luxury outlet malls located outside of Florence. Sleep in Florence.

DAY 11 – Friday, February 28: Departure

Your festive journey in Italy ends after breakfast. You can then choose to stay few more days in Florence or head back home to the US.
