The Wonders of Ireland with Kells – Falls 2020

Experience the wonders of Ireland on this 9 night/10 day tour. Ireland is a country bursting with interesting people, extraordinary places and fascinating traditions all waiting for you to find. You will start and end your journey in Ireland’s capital city of Dublin before heading to the countryside and coast to take in all of Ireland’s hidden treasures. This original itinerary was designed with the help of Kells owner Gerard McAleese.

About our trip guide: Louise Maciejewski
Born in Great Britain, Louise grew up in Oxford, England. She attended St. Clare’s Hall in Oxford, and then earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in archaeology from the Institute of Archaeology London, England.

She later applied her artistic skills in an apprenticeship at a renowned fine art conservation studio in Milan. Louise has worked as a Canvas and Panel Painting conservator and Restorer for various auction houses as well as for the Italian Soprintendenza ai Beni Culturali. On-site conservation projects include work on various churches in Turin, Archaeological digs in Spain and a Roman site in Tuscany.

Having travelled widely throughout Europe, she settled in Tuscany where she runs an Organic Olive farm. She also works as a certified tour guide all over Europe.

DAY 0 - Sunday, August 30

Fly from the USA to Dublin, Ireland.

DAY 1 - Monday, August 31: Dublin

Upon arrival, you will be picked up at the airport and transferred to your centrally located hotel in Dublin. You will have time to rest and get settled before a welcome talk and dinner this evening. Sleep in Dublin.

DAY 2 - Tuesday, September 1: Dublin

This morning we will become further acquainted with Dublin, as we enjoy a tour of Ireland’s capital city, including its winding and narrow streets in the city center, Trinity College and the Old Library, which is the permanent home of the Book of Kells. In the afternoon, you will have time to visit the Guinness Storehouse if you have not done so already! This evening enjoy a performance of traditional Irish Music to cap off our evening in this lively city. Sleep in Dublin.

DAY 3 - Wednesday, September 2:Midlands Region/Galway

This morning we will depart from Dublin to Galway, driving through the rolling hills of Ireland’s heartland regions. We will stop along the way to visit the beautiful Athlone castle and the Drum Heritage Center in Athlone before continuing on to Galway. Upon arrival in Galway, we will spend the afternoon and evening exploring the historic city center, dine at one of Galway’s excellent seafood restaurants and enjoy live music and Tigh Neachtain - Galway’s best traditional Irish bar since 1894, also renowned for its collection of whiskeys. DAY 4 - Thursday, September 3: Connemara

Today we will explore scenic Connemara, Ireland’s largest Gaeltacht (Irish-speaking) region, with its granite hills, sparkling lakes and peat bogs. We will visit Kylemore Abbey, set besides a tranquil lake and visit its elegant rooms and charming church. The abbey was founded as a convent for nuns fleeing Belgium during World War I. Afterwards, we will visit the Victorian Walled Gardens and enjoy a casual lunch before taking a short catamaran cruise of Killary Harbor, a 9-mile fjord. Sleep in Galway.

DAY 5 - Friday, September 4:The Burren and Cliffs of Moher

We will say adeus to Obidos this morning, and drive to Oporto, the Jewel of the North. Oporto is the Today we will start our journey with the visit to the fishing village of Kinvara to see Dunguaire Castle. Then we are off to the Burren, home to 75% of Ireland’s native flora and the location of numerous monuments such as the Gleninsheen Wedge Tomb and the 5,800 year old Poulnabrone Dolmen. We will make another stop at the coastal village of Doolin. After lunch, we will visit the highlight for the day, the Cliffs of Moher, before heading to Kilarney for the evening. Sleep in Kilarney.

DAY 6 - Saturday, September 5: Dingle Peninsula

Today we will make our way toward the port village of Dingle. We will make stops along the way to take in the epic scenary of the Dingle Pennisula. We will follow the drive around Slea Head, considered by many to be the most beautiful peninsula in the world and enjoy its dramatic coastal and island views. We will get a glimpse at pre-historic Ireland by stopping to visit the remaining Fahan Beehive huts. We will enjoy lunch in one of the harbor towns along with way before making our way back to Kilarney for the evening. Sleep in Kilarney.

DAY 7 - Sunday, September 6: Ring of Kerry

This morning we will depart for Cork, while enjoying the panoramic Ring of Kerry, a scenic loop encompassing the Iveragh Peninsula. You will see breathtaking coastal scenery, rolling hills, rugged peatlands and stunning mountain terrain. Along the way, we will stop in Ballinskelligs where famous Irish Skelligs chocolate is made. Afterwards, we will make our way to Cork. Sleep near Cork.

DAY 8 - Monday, September 7: Blarney Castle & Cork

Today we will start our day with a visit to the nearby Blarney Castle with its famous stone. In the afternoon, we will enjoy a walking tour of Cork, including a stop at its famous English market and butter museum, where we will learn the secrets of making traditional Irish butters. Sleep near Cork.

DAY 9 - Tuesday, September 8: Rock of Cashel

Today we will travel northeast to the Rock of Cashel, an important site in Irish mythologies. The Rock of Cashel was said to be formed when Satan took a bite from the Devil’s Bit mountain and spat the rock away! The group of buildings on the rock is one of the best examples of Celtic art and medieval architecture in Europe! Afterwards, we will enjoy a tasting of the regional Cashel Blue Cheese before continuing our journey north to outside of Dublin. We will arrive in time for a farewell dinner this evening. Sleep outside of Dublin.

Day 10 - Wednesday, September 9: Departure

Today you will be transferred to Dublin airport or extend your stay for additional days.
