Today you will visit Orvieto. Besides visiting some of the most important monuments of this city, you will also have time to walk the city's grand “corso” with its ancient alleys and a spectacular Etruscan Necropolis just below the city walls. And, you’ll see the very fresco that inspired Michelangelo to paint his “Last Judgment” in the Sistine Chapel. In the late afternoon you will visit some very special caves underneath our friend Maurizio’s pastry shop. Maurizio is an amazing pastry chef and has just recently published his first cooking book about his big sweet passion. You will enjoy a great dinner and different samples of the region. This morning you will leave for Tuscany. Your first stop will be in beautiful Montepulciano. You will visit the village and sample the famous wine “Vino Nobile” at a small, family-owned winery. You will then head to Bagno Vignoni, a tiny medieval village built around a large thermal hot-spring pool. The pool, which still marks the village's center, is especially mystical at sunset or in the first light of the morning. Both the Etruscans and the Romans knew of the therapeutic proprieties of these springs and built a spa here! You will enjoy dinner before heading back to your hotel. Today you will drive along the shores of Lake Trasimeno to an olive oil mill that we believe produces the best olive oil in Italy. You will sample several grades of olive oil and learn how to recognize the best quality. You will then enjoy a short boat ride to Polvese Island, one of three small islands on this special lake. You will stroll along the island’s perimeter and behold spectacular views of the lake and enjoy a lunch of fresh lake fish. You will have the afternoon to explore the gorgeous Tuscan hill town of Cortona, once an important center of Etruscan civilization. You will have time to stroll and discover this beautiful city center under the Tuscan sun (this is where the movie and the book were set). Sleep in the Tuscany countryside at a beautiful estate.
