Begin your journey by flying from the US to Santiago de Compostela, Spain. *For those participants wishing to take advantage of Condor flights from PDX on June 13th, we have included an optional pre-trip to Barcelona for two nights, including local flight to Santiago de Compostela on June 16th.
Upon arrival at Santiago de Compostela’s International Airport, families will be greeted by a private driver who will transfer you to your centrally located hotel. You will have time to check-in and unwind, before a welcome talk and dinner this evening to kick off your journey. Overnight in Santiago de Compostela.
Today we will dive into the history and vibrancy of Santiago de Compostela, the heart of the Galicia region. Enjoy a family-friendly guided tour of the city, including visits to the iconic Cathedral and bustling squares. Kids can learn about the Camino de Santiago and collect a special pilgrimage stamp on the tourist office. Along the way, we’ll sample some local specialities, giving you a taste of Galicia’s unique flavors. In the evening, families will have the option to attend a live music and dance performance for an immersive local into regional traditions. Overnight in Santiago de Compostela.
Today’s adventure begins at the beautiful Isla de la Toja, where families can swim in crystal-clear waters. Next, we’ll head to the charming fishing village of Combarro for a traditional seaside paella lunch, surrounded by picturesque coastal scenery. The journey continues with a scenic boat ride through the tranquil waters of the Rías Baixas, where we’ll sample the region’s renowned mejillones (mussels). We’ll end the day in the coastal town of Baiona, checking into our lovely seaside hotel. Take a sunset stroll along the beach and enjoy a relaxing dinner on your own in town. Overnight in Bajona.
Today, we journey to A Guarda, home to a fascinating, well-preserved Celtic village where kids can imagine life as ancient villagers while exploring the stone houses. We’ll then ascend to the Monte de Santa Tecla viewpoint, where breathtaking panoramic views showcase the coastline and the Spanish-Portuguese border. In the afternoon, you’ll have the option to unwind at the hotel, explore Baiona, or take a short trip to the vibrant seaside town of Pontevedra. In Pontevedra, families can browse charming local shops, savor a delicious meal, or wander through town to enjoy its playful statues and lively public art. Overnight in Bajona.
Departing Galicia, we’ll make a memorable stop at Las Medulas, a surreal landscape of red mountains shaped by ancient Roman mining. Families will enjoy the easy, guided nature walk through the area where they can marvel at the unique formations. After a group lunch, we will arrive in Ponferrada, home of the dramatic Templar Castle that hints at medieval tales of knights and adventure. Enjoy a relaxing evening on your own at one of Ponferrada’s many eateries. Overnight in Ponferrada.
Today we enjoy a guided visit to Leon to explore its vibrant plazas and impressive Gothic cathedral, which will wow the kids with its towering stained glass. On our return we will stop in Astorga offering a sweet treat with a visit to its chocolate museum where we will learn about Spain’s chocolate making traditions. Back in Ponferrada, you’ll have the chance to delve more into its history with a visit to the Templar Castle this afternoon. Overnight in Ponferrada.
Today, we journey to Zamora, a city brimming with medieval charm, Romanesque churches and castle turrets. After a guided tour and a delightful group lunch, we’ll continue to Salamanca, a lively historic city where our centrally located hotel places you close to the iconic Plaza Mayor. This evening is free for you to explore the atmosphere of Salamanca. Overnight in Salamanca.
This morning, enjoy a family-friendly tour of Salamanca’s historic sites. Afterwards, we will enjoy a group farewell lunch in town to celebrate the end our journey together. In the late afternoon, the group will transfer to a comfortable hotel near Madrid International Airport, offering the option for a restful night or easy access to Madrid center for those wishing to join our Madrid Post-Trip. Overnight at Madrid Airport Hotel.
