Celebrate winter in the mountains on this active, engaging journey through the French Savoy and the Italian Alps. In this season, the mountains reveal another side of their beauty, blanketed by snow! On this adventure, you will experience the splendor of breathtaking sceneries while safely traversing the landscape with snowshoes.
While on this trip you will enjoy five snowshoe excursions, including one by moonlight.

You will also explore charming alpine villages and medieval castles, and you will sample the best of the local cuisine. Haute-Savoy, Valle d’Aosta and Piedmont regional cheeses, wines, meats and delicious chocolates and desserts will no longer be a mystery to you anymore!

ITINERARY


DAY 0 - February 15

Fly from the USA to Geneva, Switzerland

DAY 1 - February 16: Arrival

Upon your arrival to Geneva airport, you’ll be transferred to your hotel in Annecy. After checking-in, you’ll meet the rest of the group for a welcome talk and dinner. Sleep in Annecy.

DAY 2 - February 17: Lac d'Annecy

Today, you’ll shake off your jetlag with a hike along the shores of the beautiful alpine lake of Annecy, Lac d’Annecy. In the afternoon, you’ll visit the heart of Annecy’s old quarters and wander around its beautiful open market that, on Sundays, hosts local artisans as well as food purveyors from the valley. Afterwards, we will transfer to Chamonix. Sleep in Chamonix.

DAY 3 - February 18: Chamonix

We will start the day with morning snow-shoeing at Les Tines, followed by a traditional Savoy lunch. In the afternoon, we’ll visit one of the world’s most famous ice caves - an Alpine mecca since the 1700 century! We will take Chamonix’s famous rack and pinion railway to get to Montenvers that sits at 6276 feet. While there, you can admire the gorgeous panorama of the Mer de Glace glacier, the Drus and the Grands Jorasses. We’ll then go into the very heart of the glacier, the Grotte de Glace, and learn about its erosion over the past century. Sleep in Chamonix

DAY 4 - February 19: Chamonix

We will start the day with morning snow-shoeing at Les Contamines where we will see an amazing Mt. Blanc vista and may start to see the first signs of spring flowers rising from the snow blanketed trails. The rest of the afternoon is yours to relax at Chamonix's great thermal spas or wandering around Chamonix. Sleep in Chamonix

DAY 5 - February 20: Aiguilles du Midi

Today, we’ll take the Aiguille du Midi panoramic cable ride to one of the most breathtaking viewpoints of the Alps. From the summit terrace of Aiguilles du Midi, at 12,604 feet, you can enjoy the 360° view of the Italian, French, and Swiss Alps. In the afternoon, you will have time to shop and enjoy local pastries. Sleep in Chamonix

DAY 6 - February 21: Courmayeur

Today, we’ll say good-bye to France and drive through the Mt. Blanc tunnel crossing. Once on the Italian side, we will enjoy a scenic snow-shoeing experience in the Val d'Ayas. A beautiful sanctuary greets us at the start of our trail. We may start to see mammals such as the Italian zibetto waking from their winter hibernation. Be on the lookout for the famous alpine ibex and chamois during our adventure today. Sleep in Cogne

DAY 7 - February 22: Cogne

Today will be an adventure for our taste-buds. We will start the day with a visit of the Sarre castle castle, followed by a sampling of local cheeses, including Fontina Valdostana, and cured meats. This evening you will enjoy a moonlit snow-shoeing excursion. Sleep in Cogne.

DAY 8 - February 23: Cogne

Today, we'll explore the Val di Rhemes with another snow-shoeing experience and enjoy a great lunch of local specialities. Sleep in Cogne

DAY 9 - February 24: Aosta

Today, we’ll leave Cogne and venture to the city of Aosta, an important ancient Roman outpost and today’s capital of the Italian region Valle d’Aosta. You will be surprised by the lesser-known beauties of this dramatic region and the impressive architectural heritage from its Roman and medieval past. We’ll then discover one of the important castles of the area, Issogne, famous for its unique frescoes. You will end your day in Turin. Sleep in Turin.

DAY 10 - February 25: Turin

Today, we will explore the amazing city of Turin with a great local guide. Home to the Italian Royal family for centuries, Turin attracted the international spotlight thanks to the 2006 Winter Olympic Games. Turin hosts several awesome buildings such as Mole Antonelliana, the symbol of the city, the Royal Palace, which now displays a beautiful painting museum, and the Cathedral, which preserves, arguably the most famous Roman Catholic relic in the world – the Shroud of Turin. This evening we will dine in a Michelin star restaurant for our farewell dinner. Sleep in Aosta.

DAY 11 - February 26: Departure

This morning, you will have an airport transfer to either Turin or Milan Malpensa airport. You can book your return flight from either airport.
