DAY 2 - Sunday, April 7 - Dubrovnik, Ston and Orebic

We will spend the morning exploring Dubrovnik, “The Pearl of the Adriatic Sea”. This beautiful Maritime Republic – through the centuries, a worthy opponent of Venice – was able to preserve its independence for hundreds of years. We will then transfer to Orebic, where we will spend the next two nights. En route we'll stop for wine tasting lunch and time permitting, a visit to Ston to see its awesome fortified walls. We will arrive in Orebic in the late afternoon in time to enjoy a beautiful sunset. Sleep in Orebic.

DAY 3 - Monday, April 8: Korcula

Today we'll enjoy a relaxed visit to the island of Korcula, that lies just off the Dalmatian coast. After a short, scenic, boat ride through the Srait of Peljesac, we'll reach the port of Korcula from where we'll start our exploration of its Venetian Renaissance heritage. According to local legend, Marco Polo was born here. From Marco Polo's alleged house of birth, you'll enjoy a breathtaking view of Korcula, stretching from east to west. After a tour of Korcula Old Town, and its splendid Gothic-Renaissance style Cathedral, we will visit one of the island’s wineries. Sleep in Orebic.

DAY 4 - Tuesday, April 9: Trogir and Split

This morning, we'll leave Orebic for Split. On the way, we'll stop to visit beautiful Trogir, Called by many “little Venice,” it hosts an extraordinary number of art masterpieces and it is arguably the best preserved Venetian city on the Dalmatian coastline. After we'll get into Split, our home for the next two nights. This beautiful city was founded by the Ancient Greeks and then conquered by the Romans – and later become part of the Venetian Republic for more than 350 years. Sleep in Split.

DAY 5 - Wednesday, April 10: Split

This morning we will explore Split and visit its most important sites, including the famed Palace of Diocletian (which is protected by UNESCO). In the afternoon, you will have time on your own to continue enjoying the city. Sleep in Split.

DAY 6 - Thursday, April 11: Plitvice Jezera National Park

After leaving our hotel in Split, we'll dedicate the day to absorbing the natural beauties of Plitvice National Park, which became a protected area in the 1940’s and a UNESCO site in the late 1970’s. We will see as much as we can of the 16 interconnected lakes and waterfalls which made this park so famous in Europe. We will also learn more about the bird and mammal species which populate the park from an informative nature guide, and weather permitting we will also enjoy a boat excursion on the lake. Overnight near Plitvicka Jezera.

DAY 7 - Friday, April 12: Zagreb

Today is dedicated to visits in both the capital city of Croatia, Zagreb and later we will end our day in the capital city of Slovenia, Ljubljana. Our local guide in Zagreb will show us the hidden secrets of this medieval city, including its main square and cathedral. We will enjoy a ride on Zagreb’s charming funicular which will take us to the upper town of Gradec, one of the two medieval settlements that make up modern Zagreb. From Gradec, we will enjoy the city’s famous promenade, magnificent views, and the only surviving city gate. This afternoon will continue into Slovenia where we will start our exploration. Overnight in Ljubljana.

DAY 8 - Saturday, April 13: Lake Bled & Lake Bojini

Today, we'll visit Lake Bled, an amazing jewel of nature nestled at the feet of the Julian Alps. Slovenia’s only island, Bled is located in the middle of an alpine lake with mountains on all sides. This spectacular location inspired Slavic populations to venerate Ziva, the goddess of love and fertility. Later, Christians built a church here that is still visited by pilgrims. The village of Bled is one of the most beloved locations in Slovenia. We will enjoy a great boat excursion on the lake before heading to Lake Bojini for a promenade along its shores, home for hundreds of wild flowers. Overnight in Ljubljana.

DAY 9 - Sunday, April 14: Predijama and Lipzica

This morning we’ll make our way to visit a very special site, the Predjama Castle. Perched high on a cliff, it officially dates back to the 16th century but many believe it dates further back when it was the home of the robber knight “Erazem.” In the afternoon we will visit Lipzica and learn more about the Lipizaner horse bread. If schedule allows it, we'll enjoy the performance of Lipzica's riding school. We will end our day at our new overnight destination near Piran where you will have time to relax and start exploring the little shops or enjoy the beautiful seaside views. Overnight near to Piran.

DAY 10 - Monday, April 15: Motovun & Skocjan Caves

Today we will make our way to the very charming settlement of Motovun before heading to the geographically amazing Skocjan Caves. The mountain village of Motovun is very different from most of what we have visited up to now. Its medieval origin still exudes from the strong walls and cobble stone streets. The forests around the city are an incredible habitat for truffles – which will be the highlight of our lunch today, together with wine tasting at a family-owned cellar. Late today, we will have a private tour of the Skocjan Caves, the most significant underground phenomena in the Karst region of Slovenia and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. From time immemorial, people have been attracted to the gorge where the Reka River disappears mysteriously under a rocky wall. On the top of the wall lays the village of Škocjan after which the Caves are named. Archaeological research has shown that people lived in the caves and the surrounding area in prehistoric times (more than 5,000 years). Overnight near to Piran.

DAY 11 - Tuesday, April 16: Trieste

We will head over the boarder to Trieste, Italy this morning where we will visit the Illy coffee factory for a tour and tasting, followed by a visit to the city. We will then enjoy lunch just outside of Trieste (near to the Slovenia border) at a family-owned farmhouse including a wine tasting. We will learn about the traditional food and edible plants of this area. The owners of this farm are very committed to their traditions and are always happy to introduce guests to their heritage. If you are interested, we can view traditional clothing items, including the vintage wedding dresses of women of this area. After our farewell lunch we drive to our airport hotel in Venice, Italy where you will be ready for an easy departure tomorrow from Marco Polo International Airport. For those travelers wanting to continue our Venice extension you will then be transferred to your hotel in Venice instead. Overnight near airport in Venice, Italy.
