With Sr. Otero and Don Jose, you will have the unique opportunity to immerse in Spain’s landscape, culture, art, history, and cuisine with two teachers who are dedicated to passing on their love and knowledge of Spain to students and their families. This trip has been designed to introduce families to the most important sites in Spain, while also offering a personal “insider” view of some of Sr. Otero’s and Don Jose’s favorite small villages.

We will begin our trip in the South of Spain, as we fly into Malaga International Airport. From there you will be transferred to the beautiful coastal city of Marbella, the perfect place to relax. Today you will have time on your own to enjoy the beautiful beaches and seaside shops of Marbella. This is your time to relax, unwind and begin absorbing the Spanish culture of your surroundings. Sleep in Marbella.
We will begin our adventure of further exploring the region of Andalusia today. We will leave the seaside to head north to the “pueblo blanco” or white-washed village of Ronda. We will have time to explore this charming village with its breathtaking views from its advantageous position at the top of a magnificent canyon. After lunch, we will continue to the Andalusian capital of Sevilla where you will have time to explore on your own. Sleep in Sevilla
Today we will explore Sevilla together, one of Spain’s most atmospheric cities which is steeped in history. Virtually everywhere you cast your eyes there are magnificent monuments and buildings which stand as a legacy to this city's fascinating heritage. Many of them date from the time of the Moorish conquest in 712 AD -- the Giralda, the Alcazar, and the Cathedral, which was originally built as a mosque by the Almohads in the late 12th century, and later became the largest Gothic church in the world. This morning we will travel to Madrid, one of the most beautiful cities in Spain and the country’s capital, via the high-speed AVE train. After arrival, we will visit together the sites of this cosmopolitan city. Overnight in Madrid.
Today we will have a day trip via high-speed train to the walled city of Toledo. We will travel through the windswept landscape of the countryside through the land of Don Quixote’s windmills. In Toledo, we will have time to explore Alcazar, the Cathedral of Toledo and many more important sites. We will return via train to Madrid in the afternoon where you will have time on your own to continue exploring. Overnight in Madrid.
Today we will continue north to the charming city of Burgos, an important stop on the pilgrimage route of St. James in the Castilla y Leon region of Spain. You will be enchanted by this off-the-beaten location and the kids will enjoy the fascinating Museum of Human Evolution. Overnight in Burgos.
Today we will venture to the Basque region of Spain to its most important city of Bilbao. Just a few miles from the Bay of Biscay, Bilbao has a large harbor and an oceanic climate. Due to its privileged position, there is an awesome culinary tradition, which is considered the most inventive in Spain. Fish, mostly cod and hake, is the star ingredient in the cuisine here. This afternoon, we will visit the famous Guggenheim Museum, designed by Frank Gehry. With more than ten million visitors to its credit, the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao has changed the way people think about museums! Overnight in Bilbao.
Today you will explore the countryside of the world-famous La Rioja wine region. You will pay a visit to Laguardia, the region's most enchanting village and sample wine at Marques de Riscal’s innovative City of Wine. Designed by Frank Gehry, the titanium-covered building displays the colors of Marques de Riscal: pink like the wine, gold like the mesh on the Riscal bottles, and silver like the bottle top. After lunch, we will visit Vivanco and its amazing city of wine museum. We will return this evening to our base of stay in Bilbao. Overnight in Bilbao.
This morning we will head to the city of Donostia-San Sebastian, where we will enjoy a walking tour followed by the “not to be missed” tapas-like appetizers called pintxos. In the afternoon, you will have the opportunity to enjoy the most beautiful beach of the area, La Concha. Time permitting, we will make a stop to visit Monte Igueldo before returning to Bilbao. You will be transferred to the airport in Bilbao this morning for your return flight to the US.
