Fly from the US to Bilbao, Spain.
After your arrival in Bilbao, you will be picked up by private driver and transfer to your hotel. You will have a few hours to relax before joining your fellow travelers for a delicious welcome dinner. Sleep in Bilbao
Today you will enjoy Bilbao, the most important city in Basque Country. Just a few miles from the Bay of Biscay, Bilbao has a large harbor and an oceanic climate. Due to its privileged position, there is an awesome culinary tradition, which is considered the most inventive in Spain. Fish is the star ingredient in the cuisine here. In addition to enjoying the cuisine, we will visit the famous Guggenheim Museum, designed by Frank Gehry. We will also visit the nearby coastal villages to enjoy some amazing views. Sleep in Bilbao
On your way to the city of Donostia-San Sebastian today, we will explore small bays and quaint villages, and stop at amazing viewpoints between Guipuzcoa and Biscay. In San Sebastian, we will enjoy a walking tour followed by the “not to be missed” tapas-like appetizers called pintxos. Sleep in Bilbao.
For the next two days, we will explore the famed Rioja wine region and learn more about the main varietal of the area, Tempranillo. We will learn the history of Rioja including its interesting connection to Bordeaux and how the wine’s pronounced vanilla flavor originated. In these two days you will visit several amazing wine estates where you will sample both traditional wines and more modern productions. A stop at the incredible Marques de Riscal’s City of Wine, designed by Frank. Gehry, will certainly be a highlight. The building, covered with titanium, displays the colors of Marqués de Riscal: pink like the wine, gold like the mesh on the Riscal bottles, and silver like the bottle top. Sleep in Alava
We will visit today one of the best wine producing areas of the country – the Ribera del Duero region. Named wine region of the year in 2012 by Wine Enthusiast Magazine, it will blow you away with the quality of its red wines – mostly from the Tempranillo grape. For the next two nights, we will stay at the countryside estate, Finca Torremilanos, in Aranda del Duero, where you can explore and enjoy a very interesting wine tasting. Sleep in Aranda del Duero
This morning we will start our trek into the Castilla y Leon region to arrive in Leon, the ancient capital of an important, historic kingdom. You will be blown away by Leon's great plazas (Plaza Mayor and Plaza St. Martin), its imposing cathedral and its lively historical center. We will enjoy lunch together in Leon. Sleep in Leon
Today we will arrive in Santiago de Compostela, one of the true jewels of Spain! Hundreds of years of history, pilgrimages, hopes, prayers and energy have molded its beautiful stone buildings, vivacious squares and colorful corners into a vibrant place that has no equal. Though we will not reach the city on foot or by bike like many visitors do, we will still experience the city’s traditions, music, and history while taking in some of its most important sights. Sleep in Santiago de Compostela.
Today we will visit one of the most beautiful areas in Spain – the Rias Baixas in the Galicia region. A beautiful green area, Rίas Baixas is characterized by rίas – deep, wide inlets encroaching many miles inland from the Atlantic Ocean. The southern group of these rίas is known as Rίas Baixas (the lower estuaries). Today, we will explore the small fishing village of Combarro in this region, and will taste some of its amazing shell fish specialties. Sleep in Santiago de Compostela.
